Travel Contract Tips: Early contract cancellation

Contract cancellations are never fun and an experience most recruiters and healthcare providers would like to avoid, if possible. Unfortunately, contract termination is the only alternative a recruiter or healthcare provider has. To help healthcare providers understand and avoid contract termination here a few reasons contracts are terminated early:

Errors and omissions. In a fast paced, high stress environment full of critical needs it is very easy to make mistakes. Errors typically center around poor or dishonest medication administration, or poor patient care leading to some form of error in procedure or protocols. This will put you at risk of early contract termination.

Call outs and sick days. Everyone gets sick or has emergencies from time to time. Call outs are expected at some point. However, when traveling it is very important to read and know your contract so you are aware that you committed to working a certain number of hours each week for a specified number of weeks. Frequent call outs are a contract violation, even when health related and will put you at risk of early contract termination.

Conflict. While working onsite you may encounter any number of attitudes and emotions in a single day. One of the most important things to remember is that you are a professional. Regardless of the situation it is important to remain calm, controlled and patient so that you respond appropriately and avoid conflict that may put your job or license at risk. Remember the patient is right until proven wrong and there are two sides to every story with coworkers and patient visitors. Emotional maturity and good communication skills are two big keys in helping to avoid any conflict that could put you at risk for early contract termination.
