Travel Contract Tips: Managing Contract Concerns

So you’re working your contract and you are having some big concerns. What is the best way to handle concerns to ensure you don’t risk your position or your reputation? We understand that managing difficult people or difficult situations can be extremely challenging. From a recruiter’s perspective hear the things you need to know to help you navigate concerns successfully:

1. Recognize who you are having a concern with. Is it a peer or superior? You don’t approach concerns from both the same.

2. Know the chain of command. Who is your immediate on site supervisor? Who is their supervisor? Who is their supervisor? Knowing the chain of command is very important to the resolution process.

3. Know your first point of contact. While knowing the chain of command is important, knowing who YOUR first point of contact is as a contractor is vital to navigating successfully. Your recruiter is ALWAYS your first point of contact.

4. DO NOT react when faced with a concern, DOCUMENT. If you are not able to write calmly, listen and observe and take a strong mental note of all that occurred during the concern and whatever you do… DO NOT REACT.

5. Calmly excuse yourself from the conflict or concern and contact your recruiter. Your recruiter will need the details as well as the chain of command in order to step in and help manage the concern on your behalf.

6. Remember, YOU ARE IN CONTROL of the situation. Both during the conflict or concern and after. You are in control of the outcome. If you react it will most likely result in a negative outcome. If you don’t inform your recruiter, things may never change. If you feel at risk and you ask your recruiter not to contact the facility after sharing your concerns with them, they won’t. However, it is important to inform your recruiter the day of the incident to ensure your recruiter is able to document and help monitor the concern with you.
