So you are thinking about contracting and not sure what company or recruiter is best. Here a few things you should know to help you position for success and ensure you chose the right company and the right recruiter.
1. Know what’s important for YOU and know what each company offers. Do you need healthcare insurance? Is the compensation better at those companies that don’t offer healthcare? Is it better for you to go 1099 or W2? Are you open to traveling out of your city or state or do you prefer to work close to home? What hours and shifts work best for you? What is your minimum compensation expectation? Before you decide on a company and or recruiter, know what’s important for you.
2. Know each recruiter that contacts you. You can’t always believe everything you read or hear online. Take time and talk to each recruiter. Test them by setting follow up appointments with them to see if they call on time, if at all. Research the company and look for consistent complaints. While a recruiter may be a great recruiter they may work for a not so great company, and that will impact you, especially if that company has lots of complaints about late or incorrect paychecks, and or neglect.
3. Know that not every recruiter and company have the same jobs. For this reason it is very important not to put all your eggs in one basket. Once you know what’s important for you and you’ve researched and tested a few recruiters and companies, commit to work with and build a team that works for you with no less than 3 recruiters/companies. Once you’ve decided on your recruiting team, submit your information to them, meeting all their initial requirements, so you are positioned to move forward on the best job opportunity offered from your team of recruiters.
